Video ‘flyers’ seem to be popping up on YouTube more and more these days but this one for the upcoming show in Melbourne is pretty damn creative so we thought we’d get it up on here.
Mash up of clips from Cheeba and Mr Nice
Below are a wealth of videos showing Cheeba’s apperances, productions and ideas from projects that have been put on the back burner as well as some pieces that have no purpose other than to amuse and entertain. There are also many of the videos that have gone on to become part of Cheeba’s 2009 Audio Visual turntable show. So, force your eyes open with matchsticks, pump up the volume and “Enjoy this trip… and it is a trip!”
Since artists like Hex began introducing visual arts into nightclub environments the art of the VJ has moved on many leaps and bounds. These genre defining artists showed us very early on the possibilities and enhanced enjoyment of presenting media to stimulate the eyes as well as the ears at a rave. Pioneers like this have also been instrumental in the development and progress of, not only the visual aspect but also, its relation to sound and the mediums which can control them. One aspect of this development has been the rapid evolution of vinyl emulation software which has now brought about means to enable the manipulation of video files by using regular turntables and vinyl records that play a control tone. This means DJs can now scratch, mix and juggle videos with sound in the same way they would with normal records with no latency and incredible stability.
Cheeba uses and endorses Serato Video SL which works as a plug-in for the hugely popular Serato Scratch Live software along side the Rane TTM57 SL mixer. For more details on this software and how it works click on the image below. “Word to the nerds…” what will they come up with next?

Some great footage of Cheeba’s performance at the Kid Koala show in london has popped up as well as a couple of clips from the recent BPM exhibition and another from The Soundwave festival back in July. Thanks to Sqratchsac for the BPM footage, Sirludvig for the footage from the Soundcrash Kid Koala show and Grandpapayellaman for the Soundwave clips. Check them out…

This video was cut to The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Streetlab Remix) using elements of Yellow Submarine and the Trailer for ‘Beatles – Rock Band’ as part of “the Reels of Solid Steel’ AV show.

Oh no he didn’t. Im afraid he did….
Dont take this seriously… seriously now! After some banter between Cheeba and King Cannibal about the lo-fi awsomeness of this 80’s home video version of Kylie’s Locomotion, this horror was created in a tea break cutting it to KC’s latest release ‘Virgo’. Be warned, its daft and certainly lo-fi! Dont fear… this wont be reaching any live shows this side of sensibleville.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (11th September) and it’s a special one from DJ Cheeba this week. Alongside the weekly audio mix we also have a video version of his “Reels of Solid Steel” mix, plus a video podcast will be delivered direct to your iTunes inbox when you subscribe.
Using two turntables and Serato’s Video-SL plug-in for Scratch Live to enable video controlled and manipulated by vinyl, Cheeba makes the most of this technology… mixing, scratching and juggling both sounds and pictures with stunning results. Original films, remixes and music videos made by Cheeba and James Reed (Thousand Thousand Points of Light) blend seamlessly with video mashups, animations and a wealth of other wonderful and often bizarre visual sources. With over 8 months producing the set and a further 6 developing it at shows, this revolutionary video mix has also been produced to coincide with the launch of www.djcheeba.com the new home of all Cheeba’s mixtapes, videos, blog entries and much much more. Plug in, sit back and “Enjoy this trip… and it is a trip!”
Sadly, we had to reduce the quality of the video by more than half to fit into Vimeo’s 500mb upload limit. If you want the full resolution copy with the best quality sound you are going to have to reach a show to get the DVD or win it on the promo page.
Created as an intro especially for Cheeba’s 4am Silent Disco AV set at Dance East, Glastonbury Festival 2009. The mother of all festivals at a time in the morning when most of the crowd are feeling a little special.
Song is ‘Good Morning’ by Miss Li and also features Robin Williams famous tag line from Good Morning Vietnam.
Inspired by the original music video this remix was made for the track ‘Boing Boom Tschak’ from Kraftwerk’s Electric Cafe record. Cheeba’s head in various states of fancy dress, trying (and often failing) to mime the vocals. Camera, very bright lights and edit by James Reed (Thousand Thousand Points of Light)
This video has gone on to form a part of the live AV show, as can be seen in this video
A timelapse of Cheeba and The Thousand Thousand Points of Light setting up for Videocrash II at Koko, Camden, London. 7/2/2009. Featuring the track ‘Population’ as performed by The Anomalies.
“Yarp”… video has now emerged of the DOP vs Soundcrash boat party. No turntables, monster waves and nearly 6hrs of dancing while holding on for dear life!
As part of the Soundwave festival in Croatia, Cheeba was invited to join DJ Yoda on this huge boat as it set out across the crystal clear Adriatic sea. “JUMP!”
Footage from Cheeba’s recent show in Slovenia. Highlights include Cheeba’s pigeon english, the Slovenian minister for the arts and James’ quest for the free booze…
This is the trailer for the upcoming film ‘The Reels of Solid Steel’, a 60 minute video mix using Serato Video SL Software, two turntables and a Rane TTM 57sl mixer. The full feature will be available at all upcoming shows and for free download via Solid Steel very soon.
This short was produced as an intro for the premier of the AV show in Bristol. It shows Cheeba taking a phone call and heading to the venue (The Thekla). The whole sequence was filmed in reverse, starting at the Thekla and walking backwards… It was then all played backwards giving the illusion that all the cars and other pedestrians were moving backwards while cheeba walked with a slight waddle to the show. Music is ‘Oh Yeah’ by Yello
Props to The Falefel King too. “Long live the king!”
This is a transition piece that was made for the AV show. It was made using audio from the ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother’ movie trailer with edited graphics from the BBC documentary ‘The Perfect TV Detective’. The addition of Cheeba’s portrait and light were done in After Effects by Mo Hague.
This was originally intended as the opening sequence for the AV show but is now part of a future video project. It is basically a parody of the Murder She Wrote titles… DJ Cheeba stars as the super sleuth, doing his best to impersonate her various states of shock. All Camera and edits by James Reed (Thousand Thousand Points of Light)
This is transition piece that was produced for the AV show. The main title piece is from the Monty Python Episode ‘Intermission’… Some of the sound and music has been over-dubbed, an animation from a 1950’s drive in reel has been added, Fleetwood Mac’s ambient classic ‘Albatros’ now accompanies John Cleese selling sea birds and its all finished off with a public service film about smoking grass using the Breakfast of Champions skit by Treva Whateva. Again… pretty silly really.
The C, The H, The E, E, B, A!
Audio by LL Cool J and DJ Zinc edited by Cheeba. The video is edited clips from the record shop scene in Human Traffic. No doubt… “Its going to be banned”
Recorded at Videocrash II at London’s Koko 7/2/2009. This is a short edit of the show as performed at Koko back in febuary for the AV Soundcrash night along side Hexstatic/DJ Food & DK/Bomb The Bass/Many more.
